This day started with a brisk 90 minute walk at 6:00 AM to see the Southbank again. The architecture is clearer and more enhanced without the people. This is the Queen’s Walk revisited.
Later we went to Kensington Palace for Afternoon Tea. Before we enjoyed our meal, we were able to view the Sunken Garden and a statue of Princess Diana, which was commissioned by Prince William and Prince Harry to honor their mother (on what would have been her 60th birthday) and her charitable work.
Harrod’s is the largest department store in Europe and has its own motto: Omnia Omnibus Unbique, which means ‘all things for all people everywhere.' After viewing several of the seven floors, we looked up and saw some interesting pieces.
We spent some time at the Victoria & Albert Museum and saw several gold and silver items. Some were on loan to the museum. As a bonus, we looked up and saw a piece that indirectly connected the V & A Museum to Harrod’s.
Finally, we joined our tour group for dinner and a cruise on the River Thames where we learned a lot about London’s history.
Wonderful!
